Termite risk and protection in Beveridge homes
Termite protection on a new Beveridge home is installed around the slab and wall base early in the build, and a durable notice in the meter box records what was used. We have recorded that notice missing at slab stage, protection breached at lock-up and a physical barrier disturbed at fixing. On established homes, the risk comes from moisture and soil against the walls.
Ask your building surveyor
Whether termite management is required for your lot is set through the building permit. Confirm it with your surveyor.
The notice in the meter box
It tells future owners which system was installed and when to inspect it. If it is missing, ask the builder for it.
Barriers get broken
Later trades cut through or disturb physical barriers. A barrier with a gap no longer protects the house.
Older homes
Garden beds over the slab edge, buried weep holes and dripping outlets keep the ground damp where termites enter.
Regular checks
An annual timber pest inspection is the usual advice for an established home, as AS 3660 recommends.
